The other WW2 related place we visited during our recent motorcycling tour of Europe was the grave of General Field Marshall Erwin Rommel.

His final resting place is in the corner of a small church graveyard in the village of Herrlingen, Germany.

I would have liked to have also visited the memorial just outside the village where Rommel took his own life with a Cyanide pill. However, this wasn't possible as we were very pressed for time, it was early evening and we still had to find a campsite to stay at for the night!

Rommel's wife is also buried in the same plot.

Thanks all for the kind words. I had the location of Rommels grave set in to my satnav and was determined to get to see it.

No, the Eddelweiss was already there. It's good to see that it was not disturbed.

Nice photos! I would love to have the oppertunity one day to visit Rommel's grave. Just out of curiosity, who takes care of the grave? It's covered with pretty flowers and it's well manicured. i know Rommel has surviving family, but i wonder if the German Governmant takes part in helping preserve his honor?

But those are great pics.. always been a fan of Rommel.. nice to see others out there that feel the same way.

The resurrection of this thread has brought memories of last years epic motorcycle journey around Europe to come flooding back...numb bum from being in the saddle for hours on end...riding through torrential rain all day...freezing my a%&e off when riding the Timmelsjoch Pass over the Alps from Austria to Italy. :(

I still had a fantastic time though and a cold beer at the end of each day made it all the better! :)
