mine is a memorial plaque for Old Hickory division. The memorial plaque was placed near the stairs to the Strekdam between the Sint-Servaas bridge and the Wilhelmina bridge in Maastricht, The Netherlands. The text on the monument is as following: 'OLD HICKORY IN HONOR OF THE 117TH INF. REG. OF THE 30TH INFANTERY DIVISION 13-14 SEPT. 1944'. The plaque for the 'Old Hickory Division' is there to remind the citizens of Maastricht of the liberation of the city on the 13th and 14th of September 1944 by the American troops of the 30th Infantry Division. http://en.tracesofwar.com/article/416/Plaque-Old-Hickory-Sint-Servaasbrug.htm
My current avatar is one of my Tank Destroyer Forces SSI patches -- the 8 wheel variety. I've been thinking about changing it, but I really like the TD patch. Maybe I'll try making it bigger...
My current one is of my 1944 Willys MB. Before that, I had a photo of a Sherman near Bastogne, and a battalion of M10 Tank Destroyers shelling enemy positions at night near St. Vith.
Culquaber is a makeshift tank used in East Africa by the Italian army. The base is a Holt tractor and the "armour" was made up of suspension springs from broken down lorries.
My avatar is a picture of a Marine and the "soldiers Poem". It's hard to read in the small version of an avatar. For those that do not know, it says: "And When he gets to heaven, To Saint Peter he will tell; One more Marine reporting, sir. I've served my time in Hell!" It's generally attributed to a Private Cameron, USMC, who died on Guadalcanal. I never served in the military and regret it each and every day now. My Grandfather was in the Army during WW2, and I'm in the process of trying to find out more. My wife's uncle was a Marine at the tail end of Vietnam and I just have immense respect for him and his fellow Marines I've gotten to know. But I just have immense respect for any soldier and it's out of respect for those that have lost their lives in and out of war.
Just changed my avatar to duplicate the one I use on ww2talk http://ww2talk.com/forums/index.php It shows the two Divisions in which I served, the 78Th British Infantry Div & the 56th (London) Div. Ron ps If it's photos you're looking for, try here: http://ww2talk.com/forums/gallery/member/341-ron-goldstein/
Mine is the logo of the Krewe of Orion, the Carnival Club that I belong to here in Baton Rouge. I am a charter member and serve on the board of directors.
Mine is a mix if you will...it's from the 4/14 Marine Artillery, my last Unit was actually 2/14 Artillery but liked how this looked. Then you take my screen name which is a tribute to my great uncle and since I have not been able to find a DUI for the 693rd Field Artillery Battalion or much else to represent them....well there it is.
My father served with the 50th (Northumbrian) Infantry Division and the TT as you all know is Tyne and Tees and the image is from his original patches, which I still have.
Actually the title should have been "what is your current avatar". What are people going to think when they read about how I explained being an aviation expert and see a submarine, or a cat , or God knows what on my new potential avatar?
Mine is always something RAF or forces related....They made me who I am...or brought it out at any raste....which is tough on you lot.. By the way...Otto wants military discipline brought to the front of the forum...first run at 3am Tuesday...no pumps, t raining shoes or high heels.s. Shorts will be pressed...shirts RAF blue...60 pound packs...fill em with house bricks... Von poop is excused..he has a chit...flat feet... Hair gentlemen....it will be checked...and shave unless your navy..
I'll get right on that urqh. Although I can't find my iron, and my house is stucco, so no bricks. And if I want to run in pumps, I will.
Mine is the same as on WW2Talk. It is a picture of my Grandad from 1943/44 when he was in the Glider Pilot Regiment, British Airborne.
I won't have to worry about changing mine. I forgot how. And I'm running in flip-flops urqh, like it or not. And no packs. I'll be pulling a wagon with an ice chest full of beer iced down for the fall-outs.
