This is the new thread to post examples of fakes so our members won't fall for them.

I thought that it would be nice to share our expertise on the matter to quench this curse.

Please make sure post sharp pics with sources and don't hesitate to mention the details you found.

This is not a thread for unhappy buyers , so please refrain from mentioning that such ans such guy sold you this fake etc...

Use this thread as a preventive vaccine :ambulance: .

    1) Fake Heer S.H. u. Co 40 buckle

This one appears to be hard to spot as a fake, but

-the maker deliberately made a "tell tale" bald spot at the top right hand corner.
-there is also a smaller bald sport on the top left hand corner .
-the size is a millimeter smaller than a real one, so just put a real one next to it and compare.
-the original ones are stamped , this fake is cast and has small cast marks at the back .
-all fakes are marked 40 (1940)
-by typing the maker on the internet you will find many sites who sell the same looking buckle with the ame defects at the same spot....

Caution : there are real buckles from this maker too , including from 1940.

    The fake buckle!

I pinned this thread because it seems that there are many collectors here, and it's a good place to put those hints.

A famous fake Luftwaffe buckle. They are sometimes offered on genuine belts and even aged and or denazified to make everything plausible. All fake and

markings to memorize are JFS , Dr F & Co , RZM M34/72 ,MSS 40 , A a&s, R s&s . (this does not mean these markings do not exist on real ones, but seeing them , should make one double cautious.

Skipper, maybe you should change the thread title so it's more generic about fake items. It woukd probably draw more viewers.

Maybe. This is meant as a permanent data base. I expect members to check for their own stuff from time to time and if they sport a fake to post a picture of it here , so that in time we might get a valuable database. Those who own buckles , know what it means in German and those who are googling for fakes might end here with the different keys words. It will not draw thousands of members here, but if I can help only one person and prevent him from buying a pigeon buckle then the mission will be accomplished.

A pigeon fake "fashion" that can be seen on Ebay. It's a fake aluminium Luftwaffe version with the dots missing outside the oval (this only existed on iron models) . To make it more realistic it was turned into an FFI trophy......
