The picture of the boy with a pistol pointed towards his head by a German officer is a scene from a 1985 Soviet war movie called... "Come and See", which features the brutal activities of the Einsatzgruppen in BelaRussia. It is truly an excellent and very disturbing movie on the same level as, "Saving Private Ryan". The boy's acting is very good.

What a scam. I guess German generals were back a year later, just without invitations.

 

My favourite Ww2 Photo ?

It was 1945 and the war in Italy had just finished.

One particular SS Div had intimated that they would not surrender and my mob was sent poste haste into Austria to convince them to change their mind.

By the time we had arrived they were happy to be taken prisoner by us, rather than the Russians, and we set up a POW camp at Ferndorf where this photo was taken.

Evey time I look at this photo I am taken back in time to when I was young and just beginning to realise that I had survived the war.

I saw on a few websites that General von Studnitz was assasinated in 1943 on "orders from Hitler". Can anyone confirm this?

 

I like this pic – but I’m not quite sure why I like it.
A Chinese soldier guarding a bridge over the Salween River.
The site is where the Burma Road reaches its lowest point some2000 ft above sea level.

Must have been hot to tie that umbrella to the rifle.
(Although it does limit the intimidation factor.)

This photo of Brian "Sandy" Lane pretty much tells the tale of BoB pilots.



And I have to add my Uncle John with his crew. The optimism of the young men, two of which would not live out the year.

This is actually a post World WarII photo, From What I've been told it was taken in Charlottetown Prince Edward Island on Remembrance Day 1946 or 47 . Pictured is my Father on the left who was in The Canadian Navy in World War II and my grandfather on the right who was shot in the back while fighting in World War I. The look on their faces is one of some pride mixed with sadness as they were no doubt remembering a son and younger brother (my Uncle Victor ) who was killed in action and lies buried in France ...
