Does anyone know much about Finney General Hospital, that was located in Thomasville, Ga? I am looking for any information, but need ideas where the medical files for the patients maybe be located. I have made two attempts to locate the files through the NARA. The first time I was told that they had no record of an installation at Thomasville, and the second time they have no files at that facitly. I have tried through the VA but the process was confusing and they sent Form 180, which I thought was for the NARA file request. Thoughts?
Since the hospital was closed in Dec 1945, it may be a tall order trying to find the records for one soldier who was treated there. Those records could be anywhere or even non-existent. However, it occurs to me that you may want to research the facility rather than the records. You may end up finding out where they may have been sent when the hospital closed.
Archival Records. Personnel records of military members who were discharged, retired, or died in service 62 or more years ago have been transferred to the legal custody of NARA and are referred to as “archival” records. So was the individual discharged over 62 years ago? 1952
The airman was discharged after WWII, but then re-enlisted a few days after discharge. Then retired from the forces in the 60's. But I just am having problems with the different information I have been getting. I know its a lost cause, but I thought I attempt to find something. Just trying to fill in a gap of an airmen's career. Thanks for the help
Going through my mother's photo album this week (she died in 1997 and I've had this album ever since), I ran across several photos from her time at Finney General Hospital. I thought I might share them with the archives for Thomasville or for the hospital but am surprised to find that the hospital didn't last longer than 1945. Now I find your post here and I thought I'd send a reply. I have photos with a list of names on the back. Is there anyone you're looking for in particular? Is this person someone who was stationed there or a patient? My mother was in the Army Nurse Corps and in several of these photos she's posed with patients along with other medical staff. These photos are fading fast so I need to scan them. Looks like I can upload one here for you. Hope this helps, Linda
Great photo, Linda. It would be nice if you could identify some of the people in it. Even though this thread is five years old, it's always good to update it.
Linda, I second Lou's suggestion. If you can post the names from the back of the photos, it may help others who are searching for info on their family members as well.
