Out of these four, which pistol would you pick?
9mm Beretta or Colt M1911A1 or Desert Eagle or Walther PPK?

Assuming normal situation, I'd take the Colt. It's a good design (though I'd prefer one that wasn't 60-70 years old!), and the round is hard hitting, especially in a hollow point variation.

I can perform adequately with the Beretta, but I just never felt comfortable with it, multiple expert badges notwithstanding.

The Desert Eagle is a fine weapon (the .50 version ought to come with a spotter!), but it's a little large for my preferences.

The PPK is a good off-duty piece, but is only really good for in close use.

    IMHO...

    For what purpose?

General use would be the 1911 but concealed carry would be the PPK.

    I dunno... I was a Marine! ;)

However, the pistol training I went through did cover one handed firing, both weak and strong hands.

Of course, at Security Forces School, they also taught one-handed shotgun shooting, too! That was a b*tch!

Ok, since some have made their choices about pistols, I'm moving on to rifles. But, if anyone elose would like to post a comment or two about the pistols, they're welcome to do that. But for now:

    M16 or M14 or M4 or AK47?

that would depend hugely on the variants such as the AK74 or AK103 or the AKM or AKMS, The M14 can't really be compared in these because it is not a Assualt rifle but a battle rifle and the M4 is just a shorted M16A2.

But if i have to then none of the above I would have to choose something like a Steyr AUG or one of the H&K series of Assualt Rifles.

Not to be a prick but technically none of those are actually rifles....

Either way I'd take the AK-47 (What? I like the gun. :D )

Mossberg 12 gauge, with some Remington 870s for good measure.

Rifles? Again, ideally you'd get to choose for the situation. As most combat is getting to closer ranges these days, I'd take one of the AK family as a first choice. Almost idiot proof (and I'm just the idiot to prove it!), solid hitter, good for close-in work.

Don't get me wrong. If I can ding 'em at 500 yards with my M16A2, I'm all for that! No sense in letting them get close if you don't have to!

We all need to remember that it isn't necessarily the weapon. It's the competency and the will to use the weapon at hand. Hell, I've got a Mini-14 downstairs. Push comes to shove, I can work with that just fine!

GV, Rule #1 is: "I go home at the end of the day (hopefully with the same number of orifices I reported in with!).

My definition of a fair fight: One I walk away from, in accordance with Rule #1. 'Nuff said...

You know, you could post your own gun preference things. Doesn't have to be 4, it can be anything from 2 upwards-as long as it's not too ridicolous, that is.

What do exploding animals have to do with firearms? I mean rifles, carbines, machine guns, SMGs, shotguns, that kind of stuff. But maybe you could open a free-for-all would-you-rather-have topic in the Member's Lounge, Gunter.
