good job Mike! nice find Nick, it's in a good condition despite the rust. It must have been left behind there as such.

 

German signal flare cartridge found near the Fliegerhorst.

 

Last saturday authorities cleared 3 airplane bombs, 2x 500 pndr's and 1x 1000 pndr. Who where found during the build of the new road from Gilze to Tilburg, near the east landingstrip. Here some pictures I shot today, the photo from the 3 bombs is from the newspaper.

 

...and for sure they would give you a headache if they 'went off' !

Wow, 3 big boys! That's something!! Any idea on where the bombs will end up? Hopefully in a museum, or are they going to destroy them?

 

Indeed, they are going to destroy them.

 

Here two "then and now" pictures from the liberation of Gilze, taken in my own street.

 

Excellent. It's just exactly the same! Did you try to find out if any of your neigbours is on these pictures or knows someone on them?

 

Not yet, its a long street and I don't know everybody.

Is the little monument in the middle of the street a reminder of this event or is it just something to stop traffic from getting through?

 

Thats Dutch "art-work" ... has nothing to do with ww2.
