this is a collection of the Free French 1st armoured Division "Rhin et Danube" that fought from 1941 to 1945 from Africa to Austria. Not all of the items are mine, some belong to my firends others were taken from the internet or from auction sales , as they are sometimes unique and too expensive for my purse. They go from war time pictures to post war occupation in Germany and include post war commemorative items including, stamps, key chains and even lotery tickets from the 50s.
the picture of the officer training camp must be from the mid 40s early 50s, probably in the French occupation zone around Kaisrslautern, or in France '(Alsace) . source of the 2 above boxes: http://images.google.fr/imgres?imgurl=http://www.symboles-et-traditions.com/articlesmembres/merlin/coffrets/moker-rhin-danube.gif&imgrefurl=http://www.symboles-et-traditions.com/articlesmembres/merlin/coffrets/pagecoffret.htm&usg=__X-nrATwskHcilRPd1cl-dDYpAdo=&h=240&w=356&sz=53&hl=fr&start=203&um=1&tbnid=j3niPBUELlhXGM:&tbnh=82&tbnw=121&prev=/images%3Fq%3Drhin%2Bet%2Bdanube%26start%3D200%26ndsp%3D20%26um%3D1%26hl%3Dfr%26safe%3Doff%26rlz%3D1T4GPTB_frFR290FR291%26sa%3DN
Thanks. As I told earlier, these items are not all from my collection, I wish i had them all. I will post more later, it takes time
I understand, Ive got all day, just sitting here in Memphis Tn. waiting on a load! So I'll be waiting!
very nice! Love the magazine! It reminds me of the National Geographic Mags from the 40's! One of these days I'll have to dig those out! Love the pin!!
note the printing by Braun & Co. The Mulhouse area in Alsace was only liberated a few months earlier, the Colmar pocket nearby only a few weeks earlier (the offensive started a month before this magazine was issued)
Sorry im late in saying anything but, great French items Skipper. Any hopes in you collecting French Collartabs? ;-))
I will Carl, actually I have a few but need to sort them out. For the moment I am posting what is ready, clean, restored, lent and scanned.
Hi Skipper, you got that right-I like this thread ;-)) Also, just wait till you got in those two WWII American and one WWII German items that I will hopefully be sending to you with in the next few weeks or sooner. All three items are in top-notch condition. In fact, if I wasn't only "into" collecting German items-i'd seriously think about collecting American-thanks to seeing these items in person :-D I'm not sure which of the three items you will like the best and even as a non-American collector that I currently am-I can't pick a favorite out of the three. Anyway, keep the French stuff coming mi Amigo ;-)) Take care and Merry Christmas--C.
Cheers Carl , I can't wait to get them. Merry Christmas to you, I can imagine Dusty Hill singing Christmas songs for you
Heh heh-whos Dusty Hill? :-D just kiddin' But seriously on the Militaria part, i'll try having them on their way to you hopefully within 2 weeks or less. Take care my friend and hope you and the wife have a wonderful holidays. Merry Christmas-and ha ha ha-or was it? ho ho ho? ) Yours--Carl.
