The following bottles are all from my personnal collcetion, they are:

    1) 1877 bottles with WWI cammo and left as such . Note that these were still used in 1940.

    2) 1877 bottles with WWII cammo

    3) 1935 bottles .

    4) artillery small model bottles.

Do you know why the French had chosen this unusual form for their bottles? Most others had smaller and more handy shapes.

Directly inspired from the midle ages and also the bigger, the more wine .

By the way by firing a blank in the bottle , it would inflate and you'd get 0.25 liter extra without being caught.

Haha, great advice, Skipper! Now i know the real reason for this bottle!!! Once i had a new made bottle like this one in your pic but i found it laways had a taste of leather with anything you carried in it. Not every man´s thing.

Hmm, redwine is tanning the leather too, so it may be a question of time till the leather taste is gone!

I confirm, I have drunk out of them and they do not taste like leather at all. They are metal and only the strap is leather.

The ones from the beginning of the thread aren´t of leahter yes, i meant the one you´ve postet between. The aluminium ones do have a strange taste for the first time you are using them. But with the advices of a Captain of the FFL it was gone very soon. He told us to add some of the great tasting Pernot to the water which eliminated the taste of the aluminium and keeps the water longer fresh and tasty!

Oh, I see, I understand the taste thing with water. They were not made for water in 1877 , water is for Germans and the fact that they got through in 1940 was probably because there wasn't any wine left. Germany should have attacked London on tea time, it might have worked too :D.

Seriously, the wine was allowed once a day and refills with water were free and at will .

Dang, why has no one had this great idea in 1940?

Actually the main one is for refills, the small one for drinking, but only the M-1877 bottles, (still used in WW2 ) . The M1935 model only has one opening.
