Bought this one a long time ago and wanted to share it again with you guys today... Sorry about the "ad"
Wow! Now that is a good quality piece, especially with it being autographed! Where do you find these kinds of things!? This is really cool!
Thanx guys! I read his "history" and he had the RK for a year before he died with the Bismarck. I think he also spent alot of time out in the sea so I guess not much time to give autographs. I had a great opportunity to get this back in 2008 and purchased it, and just realized that I have not seen another one practically anywhere. In great shape, too.
...which makes me think and question the authenticity; Lütjens wasn't particularly famous or a nazi "star" before he sailed the Bismarck (And sunk the Hood)... and soon after/during that trip, he died. So WHO would have wanted an autograph from him ? I guess no people from before he sailed the Bismarck. Perhaps a Bismarck crew member on board in the days between sinking of the Hood and sinking of Bismarck ? One of the crew that survived ? No wet marks on the photo ?
In Germany all the RK awarded were heroes. I recall one younger man tell in his autobiography how in Berlin old women were giving their sitting place in a tram to him instead because he was a national hero. And Hitler had given an order that the RK awarded had to have Hoffman or other photos of themselves so they could give an autograph anytime somebody asked them. I have several autographs that were sent to kids who had requested an autograph with a letter.
I bought it from a site that is on the photo as well. He has one or two historians who are also specialists in signatures.
I heard from the seller that he knows a customer in the US who has all the autographs of the RK+oak leaves holders.... wonder if he has them on his walls...
In the US! The seller even makes an update late in the evening in Europe because the people in the US are getting up at that time... Last time one person in the US bought some 8 autographs to himself from the latest update and there were some great photos and dedications...
