Hi Gents, im posting this here and in it's original language because I can't translate it enough to make much out of it. However, a very nice Gent has offered his services here to translate it as soon as he has the time. This is a one-of-a-kind-Document and if im not too wrong-I think it is some sort of daily regimental orders or report of somekind? Anyway, I have never seen one of these before-nor ever heard of one until I bought this from a dealer-for less than $4.00! ;-)) ----------------------------------------------------------------- Gebirgs-Art. Sommer
Thanks to Templehof (from another site) I found out yesterday that the Major Baron P. le Fort-also authored a book about the 1936 Olympics and who also had participated as an Althlete in said Olympics. ;-))
Hello Carl, there you go - Hello Carl, The above is a commendation letter which used to be read / announced publicly either on the Wehrmacht radio (Highest recognition besides awarding medals) or was pronounced – declared before the assembled unit, or as in this case the regiment. – Mountain Artillery Regiment Nr. 79. So the commendation letter reads as: During the combat operation at the Kulchor pass (Valley-Mountain pass in the Caucasus region – in today’s Republic of Georgia) and the follow-up advance into the valley, the 4th and 6th Battery have performed with distinction under the leadership of Major Baron von le Fort and the two Captains, Reiss and Lutgendorf. The Commander of the II Battalion and the leaders of the two Batteries have pre-eminently understood to provide skillful support to the Jaeger (Mountain soldiers) They managed by means of skillful Artillery support and personal bravery to assist in an exemplary manner in order to support the Jager to advance and to defend against oncoming counterattacks. The leader of the Combat group Kulchor pass, has already expressed personally in the names of his Jager the gratitude towards the at all times provided magnificent support. As forward observers (V.B), specifically Lt. Heidenreich, NCO Trautwein and the radio operators, corporal Hufschmid and lance corporal Plank – all from the 6th Battery – distinguished themselves. Deployed at the 8th Company, Lt. Heidenreich took over the artillery directing as the 8th Comp. was attacking at the rear of the enemy towards Klitsch and achieved decisive results due to the precise and coordinated artillery barrage. Also due to the devotedness and combat spirit of the radio troop it was possible to uphold communication to the Jager of the 8th Comp. despite the radio lines being severed. Therefore the troop lead by Lt. Heidenreich contributed decisively to the success of the 8th Comp. I hereby express my recognition for the significant achievements towards the Commander of the II Battalion (detachment) Major Baron von le Fort and the Battery Comp. commanders Captains, Reiss and Lutgendorf of the 4th and 6th Comp and the forward observer troop lead by Lt. Heidenreich. As well as to all members of the II battalion – detachment deployed - engaged in the Klitsch valley. Signed, Sommer BTW. Baron Peter von le Fort did not participate in the olympics, he was in the organizing commitee of the Winter Olympics 1936. He is also one of those Nazis who started of from the very beginnig 1920 (Kapp Putsch) was a known and active anti Semite, who never stood before court and became a sucessfull businessmen "due to his international relationships-olympic commitee" involved in military purchase affairs for the "new" German Bundeswehr. Regards Kruska
Hi Kruska, thank you VERY very much for this. It also explains why the actual doc is so large which is about twice the length of other Army Docs I have and or have seen. Thanks also for his background and for the Olympics deal ;-)) When the time comes, i'm going to have to find something to send to you for this my friend-I wanna show my appreciation for your efforts though I know you are not asking ;-))
Hello Carl, you are most welcome - and there is realy no need for a repay regarding a simple translation. Anyway why would I think of you sending me something - like those 5th Ulan posessions of yours . Regards Kruska
You might inherit them someday my friend-even if the 3rd medal is the "ugly" Kyferhausbund (SP?) Medal.  However, the middle one is the 5th Uhlan Regimental Cross with Uhlan Spange. It's been awhile since I last looked at the medal bar but if i remember correctly?? which I doubt--I THINK the first award is a Bavarian award (Military Merit? I think??)-which class-I couldn't say? probably 4th class??
