General Cholchyts, I do not remember exactly the spelling, was ordered by Hitler to burn Paris, he desobey him and surrendered to the allies
Together with von Manstein's brilliance this resulted in the recapture of Kharkov a few weeks later and the salvation of the entire southern front in Russia. A shame for the Germans that Paulus didn't do the same at Stalingrad and attempted a breakout. It would have succeeded if they did it early enough.
His name was Von Choltitz. He was the garrison commander of Paris, and he seemed to agree with the Allies that there should not be a city battle for it... I have a copy of the letter which was handed to von Choltitz by Leclerc, in which it is summarized just what the commande was surrendering. A very interesting document. See if I still have it somewhere...
Could anyone have disobeyed him more? On the other had, had Hitler ordered anyone not to assasinate him? Because if not and I think he didn't, the attmept on Hitler's live would not qualify as disobedience. Now there's a view you don't expect...
We were just joking. Of course Von Stauffenberg is the worst of all disobedient German generals... It was just a rather obvious one.
there was a general on the eastern front either 1944 or 45 cant remember his name if someone can would be a great help, who flattly refused to let thousands of men be encircled by the russians, and told hitler to his face to basically stick his order up his a** , to the point where he said u can have me shot now but i wont let my men die a needless death. anyone know who it was? could go and look it up but i cant be bothered?
