Thought this might be interesting to a few of you? This info I THINK I got from the Reverend Hayden's book-but not 100% sure since i've had this on paper for a few years now. Anyway, check this out if interested? By Order HV 35 Nr. 282: May 7th 1935. Four groups of Chaplains were established. 1) Heeresoberfarrer (as Armed Forces Officials) 2) Heeresfarrer (same as above) 3) Standortfarrer i.H. im Hauptamt - Garrison Chaplains - which was a fulltime job. 4) Standortfarrer i.N. im Nebensamt - Garrison Chaplains (with a secondary job) Civilian Chaplain - with a parttime job as a Military Chaplain. Heer Kriegsfarrer (Army Wartime Chaplain) Mgr - Messenger. Insignia on Chaplains uniforms would be the Breast Eagle on the right side of tunic above tunic pocket. They wore no rank insignia but did wera Officers Collartabs with the Purple Waffenfarbe branch color. A small Gothic Cross was worn under the eagle but above wreath and Kocarde of the peakes Visored cap. At least one Chaplain won the Knights Cross-who was: Major Wilhelm Beck, commanding officer os 104th Artillery Regiment in the D.A.K. [[If Paul does not see this i'll have to check "The Book" to see if this is correct]] German Chaplains weere usually attached to the Medical Units of Field Hospitals. There were two Bishops appointed as Feld Bischofs. The leading Kriegsmarine Deacon was: Dienstalteste Marinedekan (Leading Navy Deacon) Friedrich-August Ronneberger.
Carl what unit was F.A. Ronneberger assigned to ? and yes the Capital ships had the chaps on them and even destroyers if my data is correct, besides land based units. I'll try to hunt down some perspective photos for us
Hi E, im not sure but, I THINK he made Kontoradmiral before the end of the war-not sure and would have to check my list of Admirals if I can remember where the heck I placed it-to see. Also, if he made Admiral, I THINK he would have been a Bishop? not sure? I know who has a pair of his Collartabs for sale and at what I think is a good price. I've seen them in person and also have a picture of them. The person who has them for sale ONLY wants $600.00 for them-or last I heard? If I weren't cash strapped right now-i'd have bought them ages ago. Oh and, these also have the metal devices (crosses) on them and are in the style of Luftwaffe Officers Collartabs.
Time to revive this fine thread because Iincidentally picked up war time documents regarding this and came upon the thread in the search section. I have just picked up 4 relic Heeresfarrer paper instructions that survived the war and despite some damage from moist and mice they are still valuable documents (I will post the pictures in the militaria section) . From what I learnt the brochure was monthly (12 each year and renewed from number one to 12 evey following year) .and edited by DER Katolishe Feldbishof des Wehrmacht Franziskus Justus Rarkowksi. printer Joesef Bernard in Berlin . The number one was edited 1937 . They were printed in Gothic letters until 1941 . issues could be 4 or 8 pages . The Editor was at Gross Admiral von Koester-Uffer in Berlin. There were also additional issues (for instance I have blessing that the Feldbishof held in Berlin for the Ascension day in 1942. The documents mentionned how Farrer should act during air attacks, how soldiers should live wit their faith, it mentions the death of Front Farrer , it has prayers in German and in Latin and has official instuctions .
