Today I was watching the BATTLEFIELD documentary called AIR WAR OVER GERMANY and the doc was showing the German Flak lines and in the outer one they mention Flak Boats. Anyone got any pictures or info about them?
old Scandanavian/Dutch war ships that went through a conversion with heavy 88 and smaller 20 and 3.7's. Nymphe, Thetis, Ariadne, Undine and the most famous the Niobe which the Soviets had trouble sinking..... another one was the old capital ship Linienschiff Schleßien which I have a cap tally of. She was actually a floating hog and then dumped in harbor and used as a oversized Flak batterie, covered with lighter AA including the latest 4cm bofors like on the Niobe. the Schleßien was finally put out of action but not before taking Soviet a/c bombers with her.........I did some extensive research on her some years ago. Schleßien ~
unfortunately the computer at the house with a scanner crashed today (XXX fingers on fixing it) so I can't up load photos of most of these ships I have along with photos of some of the other types like the fighter control ship Togo.
It's late and just thinking off the top of my head but wouldn't Flak barges be a good idea as they could be moved about rather easily and the effects from bombing possibly less, your thoughts? Armored ships a good idea as well for similar reasons and others.
