I love to collect these. Sometimes I get the roll your eyes look because I have something with a swastika on it. I have learned to hide my German collection and never bring it out unless I'm with fellow history buffs that are mature and unemotional who study the plight of the soldier that had no political agenda. I hope you like my pieces of the past. [ 06 October 2002, 05:19 PM: Message edited by: mott5ranch ]
Here is a photo of some of the collection. My wife calls it an addiction. I just enjoy holding the medals in my hand and I wonder what battle(s) they represent. Honor and glory go to the victor, death and dismay to the loser. Most people today, me included, can not imagine the hell these men went through half a century ago.
This medal is one of my favorites. It is an Iron Cross first class from WWI with an eagle spange which represents an Iron Cross for after WWI and into WWII.
Your wife is right, collection is an addiction. I spent hours reading books, visiting fairs, surfing the internet... all about the militaria! Your set looks pretty complete. Do you still have a want list? I wonder what is on that list.
I sold most of my collection about a year ago and started again. I regret that decision somewhat, but I have to live with it. However, I am having fun taking my time starting over.
Great collection,mott5ranch! Sad to hear you sold your collection before but you probably had a reason. If you do have a story to go with those medals please tell us. Those are fascinating stories! The best kind of history I can think of!
Really, really impressive, Gary! Friedrich is turning green of envy! Do you see? You know? I like Spanish crosses a lot! And the mother's medals are quite beautiful too. We love when you post these pictures.
Great collection Gary--did Greg wind up with all of your crosses? Fellas--this is only the beginning..............
Greg, maybe we should tell them that we really have the World Militaria market cornered and were really just holding back on what to show off
