It's a common piece of stainless steel tableware made in huge numbers by Berndorf of Austria. The Reichsadler looks to have been added recently.

Ditto , not a military type and probably a piece of tableware bought for a few cents and turned into a relic by adding a Swastika. The HEER , RAD, DAF, Luftwaffe (two types of eagles) and KM had their own models . Others do exist but are scarcer : SS ones are heavily faked.

They are mostly dated and have maker markers too . See the folowing LW (F.LU.V+ eagle.) examples by HZM from 1939.

Thank you guys for your input and expertise. I was suspicious of this piece because I could not find anything similar online.

Any thoughts or suggestions on where to find authentic pieces online? There are many sites but I'm not sure which would be safe.

    I'd suggest Klaus Butschek : -

    http://www.butschek-antiques.com

Not cheap, but highly reliable, easy to deal with, and if you are in any way unhappy with a purchase he will refund without quibble.
