Hello and a Happy New Year to all. I joined the community to learn more about my grandfather's service in the Army (1942-45). I'm currently working on putting together a book recounting his service and that of his company which will be a gift of sorts to his two kids (my Dad and Aunt) -- shhhh, don't tell them. It's a surprise. I'll post more details about his service in the appropriate forums, but in short, he was drafted as an elementary school teacher from Oklahoma, trained in the States for Military Police duty, and then underwent Amphibious training before being shipped to England where his company (210th Military Police Company) was attached to the 5th Engineers Special Brigade. He landed on Omaha on D-Day, stayed in Normandy for a couple of months and then progressed through France, Belgium and into Germany by wars-end. I look forward to our future discussions.
Welcome SPsteam. I did a family book on two of my brothers. It was so rewarding and I learned a lot. Good luck
Greetings from Arizona. I wrote about my father's time in the U.S. Navy, from 1951 to 1955. I've also got my grandfather's souvenirs from his time in WWII. He was at St. Vith, the "other" big Bulge battle.
