Hello from the Nube. Too be honest I don’t know if I introduced myself earlier, but if I did I apologize. My dad was a bombardier on a B-17, stationed in East Anglia, UK. I’m not quite certain what unit he was with as there were many USAAF bases in the area. It was there that he met my mom and I am the result. Unfortunately both of them have passed. I’m 77 and have be interested in military history all my life. I guess it’s a way of getting to know my dad a little better. I do admit to studying other eras of military history, as well as WW2. I actually started collecting books about all aspects of military history when I was 16.
Welcome. Your close to the proper fanatic level. I read Rise and Fall of the Third Reich in the fifth grade.
Greetings. Glad to have you. There are many books to look at. Check the What are you Reading thread for suggestions. You can never read enough.
Believe it or not, my copy was confiscated by the USAF when I enlisted. I guess they didn’t think that it was proper reading material for a recruit in 1963.
I already own over 2000 books, in fact I’m culling the collection and have started a e-commerce online bookstore.
The books are in every room as well as a 5X5 storage locker. My wife is threatening to make me live in the storage locker if I don’t sell some of the books so. Luckily most of the books are about military history, weapons, uniforms, etc. so there should be a market for them. I keep telling her that I just started the website so she should give it time.
Axishistory.forum has that problem all the time. I'm a regular there. It's not a wherabou (sp?) fanboy site.
It's from an unintentionally hilarious publication meant to reassure parents that their young, tender recruit was in kind and gentle hands.
Keith, I think I recognize your name from other military websites, but I can’t remember where (us old guys memories start to slip at bit I guess). I thought maybe I had helped you on some research, but I’m not positive So, I will start new, Welcome Keith EDIT:, remembered, you signed up to ww2talk also……….so WELCOME to Both Keith
Keith, here’s a list of Airfield in the UK in June 1944. It includes the units that were stationed at each of the airfields, so you may be able to determine which airfield your father was at if you Know his squadron or Bomb Group Dropbox - UK - D Day Airfields - 1944.pdf - Simplify your life
Yes I’m on many a forum, because I do believe that if you don’t study history you are doomed to repeat it.
