Hello... My name is F.R Ressler. I am a 46 year old Canadian living in Port Dalhousie, Ontario. I served in the Canadian Navy for several years way back when. I have strong family ties to WW2. Older relations of mine landed at Normandy, and at sea, fought in the Battle of The Atlantic. My mother was a teen living in Holland during the occupation and liberation. I am of German descent...so I guess I probably have unknown relatives who served in the German Armed Forces during the war. My interests in WW2 are almost exclusively involving actions in the European Theatre. More specifically, naval warfare, but my real passion is the U Boat War. By no means am I an expert on the subject. I know some stuff, more than some...less than most. I am hoping to learn more by engaging in the forums. I had the pleasure and honour of meeting a U Boat veteran (not many left at all) a few years back. I was truly speechless and a little in awe of this old warrior. I couldn't begin to comprehend the level of fear that this man must of felt when things got "nasty" below the waves, all those years ago. I new he was the genuine article because he said little else about it other than that he had served on a few different boats. Regardless of what government these men served, the U Boat men were for the most part, exemplary and honourable warriors. Thanks for letting me share
