My grandfather was in the Army in the 1132nd combat engineers as a motor pool sargent. I cannot find any information about his unit and was wondering if you could help? He arrived in the ETO on 2 November 1944 and left Europe on 27 April 1946. Any information would help with my research.
Welcome aboard. There are some very knowledgeable people here in regards to that sort of thing. They should be along shortly. Do you have his discharge papers? If not there's a thread with info on how to get them. See: http://www.ww2f.com/threads/requesting-copies-of-military-personnel-records.13543/ Posting that info will help.
Yes I have his discharge papers. Thanks for adding me. I hope I can find some information on the 1132nd combat engineers.
If you can, post a picture of his discharge documents. They will be useful I have not been able to locate a battalion or regiment with that designation. I did find a 1132nd Engineer Combat Group. They were activated on 30 March 1944 at Camp Pickett VA. They left Boston 23 March 1944 and landed in England 4 December, then France 25 February 1945. Entered Holland 10 March and Germany 29 March. Inactivated in France 12 November 1945. They were credited with the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns, If this information favorably compares with his discharge papers we may be able to find more. Good luck.
I attached a copy of the discharge papers. That is more information I have been able to find in weeks since I started looking into his service
It is possible that the 1132nd Engineer Combat Group was only the unit to which he was assigned when he was discharged. It is not unusual that the unit on a soldier's discharge is not the unit he was assigned to for most of his service. I'm only saying that is a possibility.
