    in November 42 a Japanese anti tank battalion were surrounded and wiped out in the yacht club/Mendana hotel area, west of Pt Cruz. the Marines did a bayonet charge on the beach from left to right

    Thank you, I'll contact you. What a wonderful experience it would be to visit there and gather real relics.
    I have visited the Custer Battlefield many times on trips to my native South Dakota. In 1983 a grass fire burned the vegetation from the site and made it possible for a detailed archeological survey with metal detectors. What I'd give to have been part of that team. It's a place that I never fail to stop and see again. Maybe I can talk my brother-in-law into flying to to Guadacanal to see where his dad fought.
