I am sure that somehow, somewhere, gun control in the US is the "real" problem here. I can feel it coming.

If guns were the problem, everybody would be dead by now.

But the Chinese invented black powder because they had brains, so perhaps it is human intellect that kill people?

Thats only because, in our money hungry Western societies ,Nitro based powders were invented to avoid the potential royalties using black powder could accrue to China.

(Tongue firmly in cheek ;) )

A big problem with the american system is that they dont monitor it. All you need is money and a driver's license. I dont know about assulat weapons , though. Why do people need big army guns ? Seems like overkill to me

Might I ask your country of origin?

There are checks and balances for purchasing a firearm here. (Documentation, waiting-period. Handguns require even closer scrutiny and permit. A special BATF certificate is required for fully-automatic weapons.

Keep in mind it is America. If a guy wants a Barrett M107 .50 cal BMG... so be it. I just hope he has a good backstop... like maybe the Rocky Mountains!

Actually,in Illinois, you need a FOID card.Firearm Owners ID.This involves a background check and a three day waiting period.I'm not current on the other 49 states, but you're going to need more than a DL to buy a gun.

Oh, I forgot you had state laws. Here in Canada we have democratic(the party) style of government. The house passes something and it applies to everyone. There's little provinces do in that regard. But you still have to admit that it's pretty easy to get a gun. Plus, there aren't really restrictions on the type of guns you can have. Automatic rifles are illegal here, and they're pushing for a ban on semi-auto's and handguns. There some shops in america where you do indeed just need a driver's license. It was on 60 Minutes. Some albanian guy was buying guns in the US gor his group. One gun inckuded a .50 Cal with armour piercing bullets

Hey CSP,don't pay too much attention to the media concerning firearms. They usually don't know what they are talking about and they also have a tendancy to omit a lot of facts.

Lots of variance from state to state.

I seem to recall that in Chicago it is illegal for a private citizen to own a handgun.
They had the big "Knob Hill Shoot" in Kentucky weekend before last. I missed it again. (A place to go and see/hear/shoot a fully automatic machine-gun.) I hear it's a real hoot. The neighbor has been a few times.

Ahem, muzzle-loading guns are still quite popular for hunting

Can't get .50 cal rifles in California.....wonder if that would also apply to a .75 cal muzzle loader....
