In the running gun and torpedo action, the Athabaskan was sunk by a torpedo hit, and the T27 was severely damaged and driven ashore.
Hi Fred, Do you have the loss report for NE923/G? My Great Uncle, Sub Lt Les Hayward was the pilot of this Swordfish and I have lots of info about the mission that 838 Sqn undertook to finish off the destroyer but I've never seen the loss report. If you have any info on this I'd be mightily grateful! Regards Wilesy
