after our discussion on comics I was inspired to look up the haunted tank online and found some forums and pics of model builds of frank. Funny on most of the forums the body of the tank is pretty much agree did upon but most could not agree on the turret. I found four mode builds and three didn't look even close itch the turret the fourth looked like s 3D digital build do that doesn't count as a model to me. One guy used a m47 turret anothe m41 the other could find out. Most agreed that it was a panzer IV type modified. Anyway seems kinda funny that so many can't agree on what it is, I have to admit I found the series online and though it tells you what chassis and gun and running gear it just as turret but not what type. Think one day I'll have to try it myself lol, in 144 it shouldn't be too hard or too costly one guy used three t34 kits and two other American tak kits for his frank in 35 th scale. That can get a bit pricey I have lots of 144 tanks to use at about 4 bucks average a piece so it shouldn't be expensive no like I said their extras so I won't miss them and it should be something fun. I'm always kit bashing build stuff to cast. Got some meteor f3s disassembled one to make copies and modify to a f4 and other variants, eworking my goose the cockpit doesn't look right, I know in my scale it's hard to see and who'd notice but it bugs me when something isn't right and I can see it so rebuilding the cockpit the big thing is the space between the seats is too narrow have to cut the seats loose and remount them maybe thin down the seats a little then maybe scale out the planes for the Grumman mallard and widgeon articles I've read said they were based on the goose the widgeon being a shortened goose. Hen I bashed my t33 to build a f92/94. Hope to cast the t33 first so I don't lose it. The kit is out of production In Japan. Also trying to rebuild my stug Iii a/b the early stubs had a really unique appearance with the side plates higher than the roof my dml kit does not reflect this so trying two technics to see what works one add a strip along the edge and see if that works another saw the super structure apart adds strip on the bottom and rebuild the superstructure. Rebuilding my ju88 from f toy, looks pretty decent but lots of errors, one big feature the direvtional antenna is missing trying to make a simulation and the engines don't look right I'm sur I can fix that but I want to make more so I can also modify it into the radial engine ones that came out later as well as the stretched versions and a couple of mistel one with 109 and another with 190. Already have my m47 reworked now have to carve new turret to back date to m46 and possibly m26. Trying to Build a hvss system for my Sherman m4a3 prestige has one but not as detailed as takara or dml or ftoy so found some wheels that look great and have the war of the worlds model kit for scaling. Can't find my wwii jeeps wanted to clean them up and recast them worries me that my brother may have buried them in the storage shed, I but all kinds of storage racks in the garage and while I was out of state on a trip he emptied my racks put my stuff in the shed and put his stuff on there pretty rude since I built thr things. Well off for now
i may have a couple haunted tank comics in the trunk...seem to recall the haunted tank was a "honey"...maybe original tank got shot up and replaced with a newer model? loved the cover art on all those old comics...carried over to the cover art on old paperback war softcovers. like - the tomb of the unknown soldier, or cactus airforce etc. maybe Ulithi could do a large painting of a cover...ill try to remember and ask Darren.
Yes, the original Haunted Tank was an M-3. There was a one-off issue where there were 2 Haunted Tanks - the Stuart and a Sherman(you guessed it, guided by the ghost of General Sherman).
Yes it was a m3 Stuart they lose a few in combat after their last m3 is destroyed they go to a tank grave yard and salvage a t34 chassis put a Christie suspension and track system a high powered Russian engine most say a panzer iv turret with a 76 gun the bow gun enlarged for a 20mm, they name their creation frank. Issue 150 read free online. Anyway the guys in the haunted tank forums didn't seem to agree on what the turret was.
There's a haunted tank series that came out where it's a m1 Abrams. In the original series I think they finish with a Sherman 76.
I found the Abrams series online, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Hopefully it is still out there, as now I want to re-read it.
The British started the custom of naming American tanks, including Stuart for the M3 light tank, and the term was used in official correspondence throughout the war. Crewmen in North Africa, where Lend-Lease M3s first served, coined the nickname Honey.
