My name is Louise, 62 years old and I am an author and IT professional.. Originally from Australia but now based in Tampa, FL. I became interested in WW2 when writing my families history and researching my father's and both sets of grandfather's war efforts. My father was mainly stationed in Papua New Guinea during the war.

My next book will be on WW2 correspondence. I have been buying old letters on EBay, that soldiers and their families exchanged. Love letters, letters telling their family about their conditions etc. Some fantastic reading.

Probably my main areas of interest/research will be to find out more about where exactly these soldiers were posted. Most of the letters have the exact locations redacted or cut out, per the censorship limitations. Others just say France, or Philippines. A few are Purple Heart recipients, so their letters are fantastic to read.

No hobbies per se, directly related to WW2. But as part of my research I have tracked down family members and have reached out via Ancestry and offered up the letters after I have finished with them. They are SO grateful that I have them, and most did not even know one of their grand parents or great-grand parents had kept them all these years. That part is very rewarding.

So looking forward to not only finding out information, but also offering any assistance.

    Louise

Weren't the militia units, dubbed commandos (ala Boer War and not to be confused with the British Commandos) the first Australians to fight in Papua, New Guinea?

Consult the official chronologies for where the units were when.

Hey Louise, Great idea using Letters. Collecting letters was one of the first things that I started way back when. Now I must have something like 5-6k and they are all like pieces of history. Good luck and welcome to the Forum. John
