I just joined here today because I have been working on my family Ancestry a great deal. I have always loved history and particularly military history. I am pretty involved in Civil War research regarding my ancestors. On my maternal side, I had my 3x GF and 5 GGG uncles serving for NC. I also had 5 GG uncles serving for SC. I am quite proud of that. I joined this forum because I have been researching my maternal Great Uncle, Robert Ellis Moser. He was in Co. C, 52th Armored Battalion, which was part of the 9th Division. I'm sure everyone knows that that division crossed the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen first. I believe my 52nd crossed the bridge in the early morning hours of March 8th. On March 15th, my uncle was in a battle that won him the Bronze Star. That happened in Krethaus, Germany. His citation letter has a different spelling of the town name, but I think I have it spelled correctly. My mother thinks he was awarded another time, but I have no idea. I would love to hear any stories of anyone who may have served with him or has knowledge of his unit. He was from North Carolina. Thanks!
Welcome to the Forum, LadyMacBeth. Just one point of clarification: The 52nd Armored Infantry Battalion was part of the 9th Armored Division. There is also a 9th Infantry Division, which is a completely different unit. Here is a PDF of the After Action Report of the 52nd AIB for the period of 20 Oct 44 thru 8 May 45. Also, here is an article on the 9th Armored Division at Bastogne which refers to the 52nd AIB, and also C/52nd AIB.
Thank you for all of those links! Funny...I had just found those two links yesterday...That tells me I am on the right road, so to speak. According to Fold3, there were 5 Robert E. Mosers in WW2. Fortunately, I know which one is my relative, LOL.
Actually, it is Kreuzau. If you look at PDF page #33 of the AAR (linked above), it is spelled incorrectly. However, the AAR also mentions Zülpich (sans umlaut). Kreuzau is just a few miles NW of Zülpich, and directly South of Düren.
