Your Name: You just can call me Gaky
Specifics: I would like to know more about stalingrad, the battle of stalingrad, my family was a part of it and i would like to have more information about it, any thing would be good. i would like you to show me a good book that you have read and really liked about WW2. As well there is a book i want to read called with the old breed. I know there is a lot of sites you can buy online but i cant buy stuff online... and i think that book stores don't sell this book any more, if you could show me a free site where i can read it i would live to, but i understand if this site don't support illigal stuff.
Hobbies: I play a lot of ww2 games but i know they have nothing similar with the real war, i watched the pacific and band of brothers.
I was interested in ww2 for about 2 or 3 years, i am only 16 years old.
my grandfather and my grandmother where both fighting in the USSR front, my grandfather was a radio man in the front, he got shot a few times and then went back home, my grandmother was a medic in the front, a little far from the front where it was safe, she thread woonded people.
We have a few medals from there service at our house.
If i will think about any thing ells i would like to know i will ask :)
(P.S: sorry for my bad english, i try my best :))

Hello Gaky, nice to meet you and welcome to this fine place. Your English is very good! There are many members here with a deep interest in the Eastern Front/ Stalingrad battle. We have a section here on book reviews, and we talk about good books all the time with each other.

Enjoy yourself here, and if you can, tell us some stories about your Grandparents. We also love to share photos if you have them!

Hello Gaky and welcome to our little corner of the internet. You'll find loads of information around here on Stalingrad, and any questions you may have will most likely find a answer. Jump right in and enjoy yourself.

Hello Gaky...welcome to the forum. You mentioned your grandparents so I imagine you could post in either 'What Grandad did in the War' section or the the Theaters of War - Eastern Europe section.

    Welcome Gaky,

I would imagine that there are quite a few Israelis that might have similar stories as you; more than a third of Israel is Russian (or of Soviet heritage) :D

My favorite book on Stalingrad (the most recent one) would have to be "Stalingrad" by Michael K. Jones. I found to be an excellent read and could not put it down. A very easy read with a clear representation of what was occuring and filled with numerous Red Army soldiers' personal accounts.

    Do you/can you speak Russian?

Glad to have you here, Gaky. While I haven't read Jones' book on Stalingrad, if it's as good as his account of Leningrad, it will be a meaningful read. Enjoy your stay.

Another book on Stalingrad that I highly suggest you looking at is the excellent work done my Jason Mark, it is called: Island of Fire. When I got that book? I couldnt put it down. I forced myself into allowing myself to read only 20 pages per day. Anyway, this is a fantastic work done on Stalingrad. So are his: Death of the Leaping Horsemen, and an Infantryman At Stalingrad.

If you want a great book (also now in English) from the Russian point of view-get the book: Penalty Strike-which is by Alexander Pyl'Cyn. Thats another book that I had to force myself into not reading more than a few pages a day as it was so good.

If you are interested in reading With The Old Breed, pm me your address and I will look into mailing it to you. It is a great book. Not sure how long it will take to reach you, but I can get it out in a week or so.
