Hi! First, I received a private mesage from Otto welcoming me to the forum and there doesn't seem to be a "reply" button. I'm a longtime military history person (almost 50 years since AH Gettysburg) and retired USNR. Nine years active duty navy in submarines and four years Army NG mostly in tanks (M60 - M60A3). I've spent more time in the past few years with naval combat, and my personal library is oriented more in that direction. I think this is mainly because naval combat is less well understood than the other environs and I can contribute more. What sent me here is someone posted in kbismarck.org that some really silly things were being said about Bismarck and Yamato. I came and read and it looked really bad at first and then there were some more educated posts and I decided to contribute. I'm sure many of you know more about ground combat than I do, although I've spent my time in the desert south of Boise.
Hello Steve, welcome to this forum. The "reply" buttons and others options are activated after your tenth post.
Hello Steve -- Welcome! This is a fine place and you will find that most of the discussion is well-reasoned, intelligent and interesting. Occasionally some of the Rogues who wander here may stray, but on the whole, there is a tremendous range and depth of knowledge here. Enjoy your stay! Cheers!
Not much so far . I've been to one of the Ft Stevens reenactments and I love the idea. Unfortunately I don't have the time to do it, but I have studied the Civil War in detail and been to most of the east coast battlefields, some more than once.
welcome Steve from an Orygonian to your south, the hills are alive with snow here.....keep it up post away on your ship ideas in the Atlantic and Pacific forums ........... Greets ! Erich ~
JC have you gone through one of the many freezing rain storms yet in Portland. I remember those quite well from the 1970's from what little time I lived in Portland until being sent elsewhere. heading out Columbia gorge and ice climbing on the frozen falls..........it was breath-taking. we had a couple inchs here yesterday and 4 inchs still aobve us 500 feet on the hills
I have been through a few LOL. I have bben in Portland since '77. I loved them and you are right they are beautiful. Right now there is ice forming under the snow. It should be interesting to see how it goes tomorrow.
metro area you need chains.......what a bummer, the outlying areas are clear, typical though of these funny storms. yes remember early 70's one storm around midnight coming back home towards barbur blvd going well ummmmmmmmmmm ya know too fast, my Datsun 510 piece of junk spun around at least 6 times with me and the crate sideways into a land mass. nobody could stop to tell me with the verglas-glare ice everywhere as they would of done the same, somehow I got that thing uyprighted with the right side smashed real good but still driveable...........whew ok enough of that
Howdy Steve and welcome to the forum. You may find some light hearted postings but when it comes to WWII topics, we try to keep it straight. Glad to have you with us and Happy posting.
