Hello, I am looking for a soldier from Battery C of the 7th Field Artillery Battalion. This is Corporal William Joseph Hutnick, born in 1919 in massachusett, 11017229, enlisted in October 1940, he participated in the entire North African campaign and obtained a bronze star during the battle of El Guettar in March 1943 for "Heroic achievement in connection with military operations against in the ennemy vinicity of El Guettar". He also carried out the Normandy landing on June 6 1944 at Omaha Beach in the easy red sector and will go to Germany. I managed to find two photos of him and some documents concerning him. I would like to know if it was possible to know his role in the battery and how his day of June 6 went given that his unit landed at different times between the observers, the shooters and between the different batteries. Because the history of the 7th FA Bn is not very precise on this. Thanks you for your help
Center of Military History U.S. Army Center of Military History for starters. 7th Field Artillery for the battalion. Texas historical societies may have info on the Battalion or clues to further searches. https://www.tracesofwar.com/units/5...ision-The-Big-Red-One-US-Army.htm?sort=newest Happy hunting.
The only way you may find mention of him is through the Battery Morning Reports, and that is not guaranteed.
Company Morning Reports are your best bet for finding out the information you are seeking. If you can't go to the National Archives in St. Louis yourself, you can hire a researcher to copy the records for you. Personally, I have used Golden Arrow Research several times and have been very happy with the work they have done. You can also pick a researcher from the many that the NARA lists on their website: Independent Researchers for Hire - Locations
Three times? Are you trying to inflate your post count? Anyway, I'll second your noting of Golden Arrow. I was happy with the results.
