Hello All Hi i need the name of a movie or who stared in it, its about a ww2 german ship with some pow's on board, the ship gets damaged and pulls into an inlet so repairs can be done, one of the pow's over powers a guard gets a rifle and escapes the ship to the hills where one by one he takes pot shots at the germans doing repairs to the ship. Thanks
Sailor of the King, starring Jeffrey Hunter IIRC. The German cruiser Essen sinks Hunter's ship, light cruiser Amesbury, but Amesbury manages to hit her with a torpedo; later Hunter escapes and harasses the repair effort as indicated. By the time Essen gets back to sea, other British ships have arrived and sink her. A surviving officer tells them about Hunter; he is rescued and decorated. Essen was portrayed by the minelaying cruiser Manxman, fixed up with triple turrets roughly like those on RN 6" cruisers. The original story was by C.S. Forester, best known for Horatio Hornblower, was called Brown on Resolution, took place in WWI, and the German ship was named Zeithen; named like many German WWI cruisers for a famous Prussian general. She was sunk with no survivors, no one ever knew that Seaman Brown was responsible for her destruction.
there you go, good film...was on last week here...odd film? because it has alternate endings. the happier version, and the sad one..
