I am hoping someone will be able to identify the aircraft in this photo.
The pilot is my wifes uncle Flt Lt Bill Metcalfe, the writing on the back is very bad to make out but is as follows -

Taken on the last day of the war on the last operation to Sylt ? Germany, when we landed the war was over, photo taken by Charlie ???nnel, No 263.

I have another photo of Bill and his ground crew at 43 Sqn Aug 1943

Hoping this is of interest and somebody can help with the aircraft, clipped wings have me baffled ?

But do you see that little bright spot down below? Is that a flak fire?

    Hi
I think that is just a fault on the image, difficult to say, there are feflections from the canopy of the aircraft taking the photo.

I thought it was a typhoon but there is no large air intake or a tempest - seems too long for a spit - I googled but could not find anything with those clipped wings.

Found this, a spit with bubble canopy and clipped wings, looks like you were right.

only problem 263 Sqn did not have spits in 1945, I will try to decipher writing on the photo more clearly.
