Yep, but DD was for Duplex Drive rather than Dual Drive. Hard to say just when or where but from the casual attitude it may be during training in Britain before D-Day.
I read about one DD tank that was used in crossing the Rhine. Supposedly Patton noticed the screw(s) and had it held back for the crossing. No idea if it's true.
Fascinating image, Elwat. The casual nature makes me wonder if it's pre-deployment testing. Doesn't look especially 'Normandy', and the background seems familiar as a former south cost dweller. Studland even springing to mind. (A 'DD location'). Is that a child in the foreground? Looks like it. Got any more images? You don't see unfamiliar DD stuff that often. Cheers for sharing it. ~A
There's a potential contact on the topic here... Duplex Drive Tank Introduction Do you have any further information on the picture itself? If you look at the site above there are some clues there as to possibilities, including, for instance even post war trials etc. All the best, Rm.
Hi, unfortunately I don’t think there’s any more photos with tanks but thank you for the information!
Thank you for the link! Sadly, I don’t know anything more as my great Granda never spoke about the war.
I don't know, but... B Wing - Saltwater Training School There are perhaps similarities between the buildings and the ground to Stokes Bay. It's often hit and miss on websites whether or not the contact details actually work... but have you tried... Duplex Drive Tank Contact Page Yet? There perhaps might be grounds for hope for some progress there.
