Dad, John H Kimzey, went through basic training with the 90th Infantry Division, 357th (regiment?), and I believe it was Co. H. I have documentation that he was with them from March to October of 1942. I have a passport for November of that same year where he heads to The CBI theater. Obviously, he detached or transferred from the men he trained with in basic because they went to Europe. So, my question is, what stateside reports can I look to for October and November of 1942 to see where he was sent? What kind of records, if any, did they keep stateside? Thanks! I need to know what to do next to figure out his foot steps. (I know he eventually ended up in Ramgarh, India with Casual Detachment 8925b. But I am trying to figure out what he did BEFORE if anything.)
At some level his arrival and departure would be recorded. It might be in the group of men he was assigned to or a parent organization that kept records for that group. The Determine who had the Casual Detachment as a sub unit and look at their records. You may have to go through a few layers to find the records you're looking for. As, have you tried to find his own records. Not much hope, but it would simplify things if you found it. You can also see if there's a record of who ordered the passport issued.
Where would I look to find documentation of him leaving the 90th Divsion, 357th, Company H in 1942 while the unit was still stateside? Would there be morning reports while still stateside?
Morning Reports were maintained stateside. You should be able to track all of his movements/transfers through the MR's. You'll have to visit the NPRC (records center) in St. Louis yourself or hire a reseacher to access them.
Thank y'all so much. I was wondering if they did morning reports stateside and was doubtful yet hopeful. I actually found 1944 online, but need 1942. Thanks! Atleast I know where to start! I was trying to narrow it down to keep research price at a minimum. Will save my pennies!
