Just wanted to introduce myself. I was searching for information on a WWII pilot and ran across this forum. I love history and had some uncles in WWII. I also had a next door neighbor who was a vet. I liked listening to their stories when I was young and developed my WWII interest. One of my uncles gave me his uniform and I began the journey of collecting WWII identified uniform groups, unit histories and now patches. I bought a friends patch collection when led to my latest branch of collecting. Best of all I like the research. I am also in the middle of writing a book on WWII paratroopers from my area.
Welcome aboard. There's plenty of information and helpful folk here, so feel free to jump in. I just came across your earlier posts. It looks as though you have the ability to PM (Private Message). On your User CP page, look on the right side of the screen for a link that says Private Messages. Under that is a link to Send New Message. That should work. If it doewn't let me know and I'll get in touch with one of the administrators to open it for you. Good luck.
Howdy, good to have you lurking about the joint. However, I must take exception to you categorizing Tennessee as "God's Country." You're a bit too far north...
Welcome. I would be very interested in hearing about/from any 82d A/B vets that recall their last few days in Normandy, securing the hills outside La Haye du Puits, and/or Ludwigslust/Wobbelin and the liberation of the concentration camp there, as my father's unit was next to the 82d A/B both times. Good luck with your book, Greg C.
Hello and welcome 82nd, glad to have another collector on the forum, would love to see some pictures. Good luck with your book!
You will earn medals when you have reached a certain amount of postings. You should have one by now. The second one comes at 100 postings and the 3rd medal comes at 250 postings.
Here's a post that explains the medals and reputation awards: Thanks to Jon, Jagdtiger1 for the info.
You should have a Purple Heart by now. I'll contact one of the Administrators to see why it hasn't shown up.
