Hi Everyone, My name is Steve and I'm excited to have joined the forum. I'm looking forward to learning more about WWII and the generation that fought in it. As I mentioned, my name is Steve. Feel free to call me that, or my nickname -- "Grapenuts" (There's a story behind that I'll save for another time!) As for my member name, I chose ProudCivilian because that's exactly what I am. I have never been in the military, but have had family members serve. Unfortunately, I was disqualified for service later in life as a 26 year old. Prior to wanting to join the service I played hockey, and during my playing years I suffered a serious knee injury. That, accompanied with a sleeve of tattoos (non vulgar or offensive), I was told I was disqualified from serving. I am almost 32, and have been interested in WWII since I was a kid. I was fascinated with the era, and after learning about WWII in school, I have been interested heavily ever since. I currently live in South Mississippi, and often go to New Orleans to the WWII museum, but I am originally from Pennsylvania. I am interested in WWII as a whole, but am currently reading on the European Theater of WWII. I would like to know more about the people who served during that time be it stories from those there, or stories that family members have told to you. Though I read quite a bit on WWII, I am by no means an expert -- just wanting to learn more. As far as hobbies, I like to read, work on/build things, brew/drink beer, play video games, and work on computers. I am avid fan of the 30 time period between 1930-1960 and believe I was supposed to be born in that era. I recently starting collecting WWII era things. (i.e. Adverts, machines, etc) I recently found a damaged Grease Gun, however, I can't find numbers on it, so I am not 100% confident it is from that era. I also love to travel, and my wife and I plan to travel to Europe in the future to visit some of the site of WWII. Other than everything mentioned from above, I am here to meet some new people and learn about the greatest generation we've seen! Cheers, Steve
Welcome. Tell us where and with who your relatives served. I am sure that will be a main focus area for you, especially as you learn more. NOTE: At the top right there is a green button to do simple searches of the forum. Completely hidden from view, immediately beside it is the Advanced Database Search button. It is box the same size. Click on it and then you can do much tighter searches into topic areas that interest you. That's the way to get topic titles exactly on task for you. You'll find heaps of good threads that way.
Howdy Steve, good to have you lurking about the joint. A Pennsylvanian living in Mussippi? How's that working out?
Welcome to our little slice of the internet. Post any questions you have and we'll do our best to answer them. A Pennsylvanian in Mississippi? Now I think I've heard it all.
