I´ve been reading in a couple of places that Himmler´s favourite book was Koran and that he never was without a copy with him..?? Does anyone know more of this? And whether it is true? I do know that he was very warm hearted towards Islam and this would explain alot. It is possible that Hess could have shown him the book, as Hess was born in Alexandria, I think, and was familiar with Islam as religion.
Kai check out: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/816232/posts Himmler was known to remark that he regretted that Germany had adopted Christianity, rather than "warlike" Islam, as its religion. Also the Grand Mufti of Jeruslem helped recruit Islamic troops into the Waffen-SS. Notably Handschar division. Can't remember what year, but Islamic commandos parachuted into Jeruslem and poisoned the water wells. Other major Nazi sympathizers of this era include Ahmed Shukairi, the first chairman of the PLO; Gamal Abdel Nasser and Anwar Sadat, future presidents of Egypt; and the founders of the Pan-Arab socialist Ba' ath party, currently ruling Syria and Iraq.
Thanx reddog2k, It is quite interesting to see that WW2 was not just Europe or the Pacific ocean and island-hopping ( not to say those were not interesting and important things ). Lotsa things happened, and those things that did not might have changed the tide of war, I s´pose.
'cuse, me, Reddog...Iraq???? The German agent who was liason officer to the palistinian "commandos" was executed afterthe war. I read he was dropped into Palistine by means of a captured B17! I'll try to find my source...
Oops that was my mistake about Iraq. Just wondering if the Ba'ath party is still facist. I remember seeing on the news that Iraqi men were insulted that the US sent black troops.
Hi my 1st time here, does anybody have any solid information about Yamashita's gold or is it all speculations.
IIRC, the Grand Mufti happened to be the maternal uncle of Yasser Arafat, Nobel Peace Prize. My time to unearth a thread
