What if Himmler's cyanide capsule embedded in one of his teeth failed to kill him and he to was sent to Nuremberg, would he clammed up or took the world stage as Goering did?

He would not clam up nor take the stage. He would probably try to cut a deal since he did have knowledge of the many internal security records and maybe even Heydrich's records. He also would probably cut a deal to testify on the full details of the final solution and obviously blame Hitler for it. It would have gotten Kaltenbrunner off the hook from taking the fall for Himmler's decisions.

And what got life like Hess, no way, wheather he clammed up of spilt his guts he was facing death anyway, but just let us assume you are correct and he cuts a deal, and he tells all, i bet the first time Soviets take their turn in looking after the prisoners "Kubyashi Maru" he is dog meat, they'll just call it suicide and be done with it.

In the second sentence I stated that he would "try" and in the third I forgot to add that he would "try" to cut a deal. I did not say the allies would have taken the deal. I know he would still hang but he did have a lot to offer the allies. Perhaps locations of stashed art or gold. Perhaps the swiss accounts. But I agree with you in that it would be very difficult for the allies to justify keeping him alive. He was too famous (or better yet, infamous) to secretly use much like Gehlen or other nazis.

I think he may live as the French, British and Americans looked after him when it is their turn but as i said when it came to the Soviets, dead as door nail, my assertions are based on the fact the Soviets finally killed off Hess.

We are looking at a man who was the second most powerful man in the Reich, who is now broken and a shell of what he was, I don't believe he would had done a Goring number making the most of his last days on the world stage as for clamming up well that would depend on the manor of certain questions he would be asked.

PzJgr, raised an interesting point that Himmler may try and cut some deal with the Allies of course the Soviet specter would be looming in the background, I suspect he may spill his guts in writing down many things for the Allies which would prove to be gold dust to the Allies but I'm sure Himmler would not want life imprisonment only to slip over on a bar of soap latter on.

Richard, I'm sure the guys who performed this ceremony would very much like to see The Chicken Farmer's skin nailed to the door of Lenin's Tomb!

Do you recognize the closest standard?

Some people have their special place reserved in heaven, Heini certainly had his in the Soviet Union.

He had already made attempts to negotiate with the allies hadn't he?

Personally I never reckoned Himmler as the sharpest knife in the box. He stands for me as the highest risen example of the mediocrities that Nazism allowed to access the levers of power. He'd have nowhere near the 'balls' that Goering displayed at Nuremberg (I almost admire the fat pigeon's stance at the trial).

I suspect Himmler's most likely handling of the situation would have been bursting into tears and blaming everybody but himself.
He'd then perhaps turn towards his flaky hypochondriac side and try and hide behind that.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

I agree Adam. He was attempting to negotiate a separate peace through Count Bernadotte (sp?) of Sweden. He also released some Jews in the hopes that the allies would see that he actually was against the final solution. yeah, I can see him begging for his life if he could not negotiate (hysterically) for his life.

I think it goes like this "Taschenabschaum", literally meaning bag of scum, this is the German reference to the human.

I'm sure the whole of Russia would like a few words with Himmler before beating him to a bloody pulp.

Closest standard bears the name of the criminal who started WW2. The standard is the first SS Division Leibstandarte and the first book I read was Hitler's Elite all about them.

It was the standard carried by the Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler. The flag was missing. Probably a souvenir for some Russian soldier.

No, Goering did that. Hess was condemned to life and he stayed in Spandau Prison till he died there some years ago.

It would probably have given the holocaust deniers an even harder time, because he would have sang like a bird.
It wouldn't have saved him though.

The picture of Himmler drawn by his colleagues during the war is not flattering. Gotthard Heinrichi who took over the front outside Berlin from Himmler, was not impressed. A headless chicken. I remember reading about Himmlers vision for the SS after the war. It was like the middle ages with SS Knights guarding the reich. Essentialy he was no man. He drew strength from his master, and simply obeyd his orders. Treue Heinrich wasn't in the end was he?

If put before the judges he would have bendt over and cried mercy.
