    Found this article on "Ostwind".

    http://www.geocities.com/martind_us/html/hy.html

    THE STORY

The Ostwind was one of two yachts built by the Nazi government after a poor German showing in the 1936 Olympic races. Even though it's original purpose was to demonstrate German superiority in Olympic competition, the Ostwind actually spent most of it's life in America, war booty transported here by the US Navy in 1947.

But when it first arrived in this country it wasn't known as Hitler's yacht at all. It became Hitler's yacht. The Ostwind’s sister ship - the Nordwind - a boat, mind you, (with an identical pedigree) - built at the same time, by the same people, for the same purpose - has never been known as Hitler's yacht. To this day it sails in Britain under the name White Rose, a charter boat which inspires no controversy, attracts no attention at all.

We know that it was completed in 1939, that each cabin was finished in a different fine wood, and that it's sail, over 40 feet long, was made of a rare Egyptian linen. We know that it's designer was Heinrich Gruber - the most lauded naval architect of the time - and we know that it's purpose was to demonstrate the superiority of the Aryan race.

But we don't know, will never be able to say with absolute certainty, whether or not Hitler ever actually set foot on the Ostwind.

One of the rumors was that Hitler and his mistress Eva Braun used the Ostwind for pleasure cruises. Another is that Hitler had an extraordinary affection for the boat, that it was very important to him, and that when he talked about it, he always refered to it as
    his "special lady."

    Off subject though.

Last night I was watching some 1 hr long special on Toys of Billionnaires.

One Billionnaire had a singlemasted Sailboat (The largest one ever built) which cost him $30,000,000+++ to build. His "Sailboat" is longer than 1 Football field and has a fulltime crew of I think 70? not sure on that number.

This "Sailboat" has several guest cabins each with a 60 inch Plasma TV in them/satalite TV, and an onboard library of 8,000 movie titles available to be selected to watch.

This Sailboat also has it's own and floating "garage" for several smaller craft including speedboats to Jet-Skis.

In case you might wonder--the name of this "Sailboat" is Georgia.

Just one if its stereo systems cost $1.3 Million dollars. The master cabin is twice the size of my 1 bedroom apartment--not including the restroom that is next to his Master Cabin--that restroom as at least the size of my apartment.

How would you like to have that as a "toy?" I sure would. [IMG]

Is that an American football field or a British one? If its British it makes it no more then hundred metres... Not a good toy, take me ages to push it out into the sea from where I am.

Onto Hitler's yatch thing, I'm not to sure, I know he wasted quite abit of time in his nest, waking at at 1.00pm sometimes, but if he did it must of been pretty early on in the war. Allied air and naval would of been a big threat to him.

Quite cool to imagine this little yatch flanked by two hugh battleships and U-boats for protection.

Hi "Z"--I don't know--I guess it was a British Football field they were talking about since this "sailboat" resides somewhere in the British Isles.
