Got home from work, heard very loud jet, knew it had to be a fighter. scrambled too late onto balcony to see it. heard it coming again and I managed to get onto balcony and it did a magnificent circle around my apartment. waved to him. in such a rush, forgot phone inside. heard him again, rushed outside and managed 2 crappy photos. should have taken video to hear those screaming engines. because he flew by the sun, was difficult to make out. it may have been blue - blue Angel's?...no airshow scheduled here until 2020...we very rarely get fighters flying around here. it was awesome thought for sure it was a newer model f18, because I could see the (strakes? canard?) that is new to the f18 - from front of cockpit to wing. there were extended rails under and forward of the wing...electronic pod? But- the rear tail had an extended cover (turkey fan?) over exhaust...is that a feature of newer f18's? because, remember it was in the sun, it kind of looked sukhoi ish. or mig ish. any Russian jets that look like f18? I only ask because it looked the same blue. that was a rush, man. cant upload file. tried to thumbnail, but says too big.
Cool Tim! We have another exercise in Darwin at the moment ...mostly F-18s Super Hornets...cruising by in formation then break up to land one after the other (I can hear them outside now and its 9 in the morning!) Still haven't seen an F35 yet... : ( Darwin is built around the civil/military airport - so one cannot miss all incoming/outgoing aircraft). There was an article in this weeks paper about civil aircraft having to do circles waiting for the jets to land...
wow...you are experiencing flyby's too? you are a big city. again, we NEVER get fighters here unless there is an airshow. will try to post those 2 pics. cheers man
Darwin has 130k people...is that a "big city"? (we are the capitol of the NT - but the whole of the NT only has 250k people) Its exercise Diamond Storm
can I get some advice on how to post these 3 pictures I took... I tried thumbnail. always says file too big
hallooo...2 and a half pictures of a fighter jet flying 3 times around smallville middle of nowhere. nothing to see here. move along.
The Canadian CF-18 Demo Team is training at Cold Lake, Alberta this year. They have an abbreviated schedule this year, so the decision was made to keep them there instead of training with the Snowbirds Demo Team. Their 18 may still be wearing the blue color scheme they used in 2018 for the NORAD anniversary.
We get a lot of low altitude fighter flights through the mountains here. A lot of training going on from nearby military bases. .
last time I saw an f18 here, pilot ejected and broke his back. and a ...what- 20 million dollar aircraft. that was big news.
20 million? It was a Canadian jet from the 70s. What's the going rate for scrap metal? 160 bucks per tonne.... ?
wonder what the pricetag is on a used f18- hard to find these numbers. I found around 55 million for new. doesnt say year or model.
