Just wanted to start a thread where I could post interesting military tidbits I come across. The first is a video by a 2d Marine Division Gunner. Not to be confused with Gunny, a Gunner is a type of Marine Corps Chief Warrant Officer, distinguished by a bursting bomb device, that is the SME (Subject Matter Expert) on all things infantry; 0306, Infantry Weapons Officer-"The Gunner is a Chief Warrant Officer specifically trained in the employment and training of battalion organic weapons and assigned personnel. He is a special staff officer employed as the principal advisor to commanders at all levels to assist in the development of training plans and employment of organic weapons. During combat, the Gunner may be tasked to inspect fire plans to ensure organic fires are integrated and mutually supporting at the battalion level, perform other supervisory tasks at critical events, and/or command task organized or provisional combat units. Gunners are advisors on the MOS training requirements and development of all MOS 0321, 0313, and 0369 (Infantry SNCOS). They have oversight of the unit's ammunition allocation and annual weapons re-qualification programs. They accommodate all weapons organic to the MAGTF in accordance the current version of MCO 3570.1. Additional duties will include: new weapons systems acquisition, new weapons systems research and development, foreign weapons training, curriculum development for infantry MOSs and Marine Corps Marksmanship Programs, and Fire Support Planning. The Gunner's strength is his ability to vet, conduct and quantify combined-arms training." Now that you know who they are and what they do, here's a video explaining how suppressors effect your weapon.
In this video, it is just as much about having fun as teaching a safety lesson about hot suppressors. He also manages to lay down a fairly impressive volume of aimed, semi-auto fire.
With all the bad news concerning Muslims doing bad things, here's a little inspirational story about an Afghani Interpreter. He served with the Marines in Sangin, at one time the most dangerous area in Afghanistan. I went to the Rome Georgia Airshow yesterday, 21 October, 2017. The Blue Angels were incredible as always. Got to see the "Class of '45" Corsair and P-51, loved them. Here's a video about them: Didn't know until I watched the video that the "Class of '45" originated at the same airshow (Rome, GA) in 2013. Here's their website: Class of '45 – History in Action The Corsair has 200 combat missions! SOCOM's parachute team was there. One dude had 6,000 freakin' jumps. Insane. They had two Corsairs, two Mustangs, the only flying SBD Dauntless
I like the photo of the Corsair with the little guy showing a bit of attitude and swagger. Future Marine?
Yep, the grandson, he's three. He's his daddy made over. he spotted one of the Corsairs and said, "hey granpaw, there's your favorite plane, it's my favorite plane too." He'd spotted it before me, probably because he was riding on his dad's shoulders, but I thought good, the aircraft recognition skills are strong in his one. I turned to the wife and said, "Hey that's impressive, he know's his planes." She shook her head and said, "I don't know one plane from another but even I recognize it. You've got two models of it on your bookshelves, several pictures on the walls and that WWII Navy metal sign in the garage". Oh well, it is what it is.
Wanna see some cool Christmas tree ornaments. Posted to the Facebook page of one of my old units. Gotta get me some of these! Marine Corps Christmas Ornaments by USMCPrice posted Dec 17, 2017 at 8:19 PM
