I'm not asking about whether or not a giant magnet could be used against these people, but do they really wear their medals like this? If so, am I the only one here that thinks this is ridiculous? I mean come on, really. I've always thought that their hats look a bit strange, but these guys went a bit overboard with displaying their awards. And I thought that Patton did it up too much. Are there some on the back too?
It looks ridiculous, because whomever edited the photo in Photoshop wanted it to look ridiculous. The original; photo: Not wars plural, but war singular. A peace treaty was never signed for the Korean War, so it has still been going on.
Of course it is gaudy looking, it is for show at ceremonies... Regularly, the North Koreans use a "fruit salad" like the rest of us. We mock what we do not understand...
I personally think the "fruit salad" is more impressive. The mass of metals just looks tacky to me but I guess it's a cultural thing. As has been mentioned the hats seem a bit silly as well but it's hard to say exactly why.
I hate all that stuff. 90%+ of ribbons in any nation are just participation awards. I once worked with a naval officer who had been a corpsman with the marines for two tours in Vietnam and could have covered his blouse with fruit salad, but chose to just wear his Combat Action Ribbon. Other officers in his medical administration field covered themselves with meaningless awards, but those who knew what that CAR was, knew this guy was special.
Many moons ago, I got a medal, plaque and crate of beer for winning a ladies snooker contest. I have never figured out what side of my cardigan to pin the medal.
Looks like a lot of brass and silver, would a magnet work ???........Or they could be a North Korean bullet proof vest....just hope nothing gets between them. I cannot believe you guys would make fun of soldiers on a war forum ....Otto a little discipline here !!!
Just as with everything else in NK you do what you are instructed to do - if looking stupid keeps you breathing you look stupid.
That original photo is great. That regime is so outlandish that it could certainly be something they came up with. If you are going to execute someone with AAA, expecting them to wear a couple medals on their leg doesn't seem like a stretch anymore.
That topper the North Koreans wear just looks well....dopey. It doesn't do anything for me. Now this is a hat!!!!
