Hello to you all, I am John an WWII Veteran from the USA and I have an story that will shake you to the core I would believe. Not many people know of the American Legion that faught for Hitler. My story begins here in 1944 and I was an American who was caught during the Battle of the Bulge and I surrendered because my Thompson didn't have any ammunition and I was sent to an POW camp which was roughly about some miles from the Alsace Lorraine border as far as I can remember as the last thing I remembered before I was put in the POW camp was an sign saying that my "bounty hunters" were taking me out of what remained in Occupied France (somewhat occupied, as was.) and I spent 5 months in horrible conditions which were beyond pain could describe now a-days, I recieved regularly beatings from an SS-Schutze who apparently was secretly gay and got an turn-on from beating me with an cattle prod and that was demoralizing as was to recieve beatings regular from an Shutzstaffel Soldier and an mock execution was staged by an SS officer who had the rank of Obersturmfuhrer every day which still frightens me in nightmares and I continue to have to see an Therapist as everyday I relive the mock executions by that SS-officer. But my ticket to freedom when an Waffen-SS officer offered me the chance to fight along with the Reich.. I do not know why I said yes, but it was my ticket to not getting beatings and mock executions everyday. I served during the Battle of the Bulge on the German side for approximately two days and were deployed to Berlin to assist in the Reich's final defense but I defected in the last hour and Surrendered to the American unit I was from and I was in an American POW camp for an short time but then released once my records as an American citizen were verified.

If you have any questions about my story, feel free to ask.

(PS: Sorry for typing in an large letter form, I need to make sure I don't misspell an word.)

So you were captured during the Battle of the Bulge, spent 5 months being tortured in a POW camp, THEN served in the W-SS in....the Battle of the Bulge.

Apart from the obvious difficulty there...the war DIDN'T LAST for five months after the Bulge.

No, I don't actually have ANY questions to ask you at all.

Here in Northern Ireland there's a word for this kind of story....

I don't buy any of this. For the obvious reasons stated and many questions of my own. Give us details that would support your story. (By the way, I'm an Admin, so it would be to your benefit to comply.)

I don't know about WWII, but normally those who change sides and fight for the enemy are called traitors. Even if it is to escape punishment.

I usually don't question what a WW2 vet says, but this is an except. You joined the Waffen SS, were captured by the your former US unit, and then turned loose? Wouldn't you have been tried to desertion and/or aiding the enemy? What was your unit?

Without details, this story is simply impossible to believe.

Oh no, dont close this thread. I would love to hear more from AmericanGermanVet. May be it was him that responded "NUTS" during the Battle Of The Bulge, not Anthony McAuliffe.
