Why didn't the Jagdtiger have a muzzlebrake?

the jagdtiger was equiped with a 12.8 cm pak 44 L/55
it was proposed to equip the maus and the E-100 with this gun

Muzzle brakes serve to reduce recoil. Apparently the structure of the Jagdtiger's hull and gun mount was strong enough not to require a muzzle brake on the gun.

The gun would have been directly connected the chasis, which probably weighted quite a bit.

Also on normal tanks the gun is connected only to the turret so any excesive recoil would be transfered from the gun, to the turret and then put directly onto turret ring which might not be able to take the stresses over a period of time.

Am I right in thinking muzzle breaks reduce the velocity of the round so their use is a balance and when possable they are avoided?

    No, they redirect propellant gases.

so they have no adverse affect on velocity then?
