A new quiz, entitled 'Know Your regiments', Christian has allowed me permission to try a new quiz. I'll put in a clue/clues about 'British' regiments, I don't know enough about the others!!!
I'll try to provide badge pics if I have them.
start with an easy one.............who's this?

"I wear a blue flash on my shoulder,
A little white tank on my arm,
The '*** *****' taught me to soldier,
With them I'll come to no harm".

    nick named.. "Pontius Pilate's Bodyguard"

my grandad was a Royal Scots Greys, is that the same one?

Apparently there was an annecdote about him pawning his kilt in Paris during WW1 for "female services rendered" but when they got back from leave was caught out in a kit inspection and tied to a wagon wheel with bread and water as a punishment. No idea how true this is but it's a nice story

    Re: regiments

Korean War -- the Glorious Glosters (thats the Gloucestershire Regiment as was) on Gloster Hill during the Imjin River battle. Basically one bn stood off a whole Chinese Horde (sorry, Division).

Merlin, was it the Glosters who wore two cap badges (back and front) in memory of another time they were surrounded and still won the battle (in Egypt IIRC)?

FNG......The Scots Greys are now amalgamated with the 3rd.Carabiniers and are known as the 'Royal Scots Dragoon Guards' and are not the Royal Scots., two famous cavalry regiments!!! (Thanks for cocking up one of my later questions! )
Correct again Ossie, yes to the back and front badges and the history lesson!
Blue citation worn by Glorous Glosters!
These are toooo easy so........... Who in WW2 were known as the 'Black Mafia'? Brownie points for more info!!

OK, if no-one else will have a go, it is the Rifle Brigade (or anyone related who wears dark green). The reason is the dress uniform -- almost black in colour, and the fact that the British Army looks after its own, so once someone gets to a senior post, their regiment will suddenly see a wave of promotions or benefits

First read it somewhere in John Masters autobiog -- Bugles and a Tiger or the sequel

Spot on Ossie, in the early part of the desert war it was reckoned they just about ran Cairo! (I like the 'Sharpe' clue!)
As there is conflict between the Rifle Brigade and the KRRC I put in both of their 1917 badges.)
The RTR tried to usurp it later because of their black overalls and beret but no go!
OK next one not too many clues ........so......
    "Three large balls,
    Three small canons!"

Royal Army Ordinance Corps. Due to a (Famous?) historical mixup which involved providing an artillery unit with cannon balls too big for them IIRC.
