Just come across these amazing blended then and now photos of Leningrad/St Petersberg. A lot of time and effort has gone in to creating these photos and my hat is off to the person who did them. Biertijd.com // Media ยป St.Petersburg - Past vs Present
excellent photos. somewhat eerie and ghostly. The ghosts of Russia's past have come back to life. Very interesting
I find the fifth and sixth photos, of German POWs being marched along a street, most eerie. How many, if any, survived Russian internment?
I don't know if you read Soldat by Siegfried Knappe? It is a good history of a German arty officer during the war and his survival after being interned in a Soviet POW camp. Great insights into what the NKVD was looking for and who survived the camps. He was a bit more lucky than the average soldier, being an officer. To escape the interrogations was a delicate matter for all.
These photos have been making the rounds for a few years now, but the are so amazing that they still generate interest. I am still fascinated with how they are done. The photographer/artist is Sergey Larenkov and you can visit his blog/livejournal to view all of his works: sergey_larenkov Please note, much of the blog is in Russian, but there is enough English to navigate around the website and view all of his amazing work.
