Quick question: Does any one know how the Leopold got it's name?

I don't honestly know, but if I had to hazard a guess I'd say that most of the bigger railway guns and mortars recieved common German first names (Karl for example) and Leopold is simply one such name.

Hi - Thanks. I know the story behind the Dora and Gustav and wondered if there was the same kind of connection for the Leopold. I have recently bought my boyfriend the Leopold plus the Loki. And a couple of days ago the Dora arrived - an early Christmas present from me. It is, so I'm told, the ultimate model kit to own. We will have to move to a much larger house to enable him to build it though!!!!!!!!!

I'll try and search for the Leopold and if I can find the reason behind the name I will post my findings.

Are you talkng about the 1/35 Dora?If so,that is an awesome kit.
Also, the Allies nick-named Leopold 'Anzio Annie'.That might help in your search.

Yes, I do mean the 1/35 scale Dora - and as you say it certainly is an awesome kit. Steve can't wait to start it - but has decided to start the Leopold or the Loki first - that is after he's finished the other five tanks he has on the go!!!!!!!

I've been searching the Internet for an answer to my question but as yet have been unsuccessful.
