    MAY 21, 1926-JAN. 31, 2009

    WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Lester C. Martin, 82, of 228 Landis Ave., died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at his home.


    Born May 21, 1926, in Fountaindale, Pa., he was the son of the late Glen E. and Ethel B. Dick Martin.


    He worked for Beck Manufacturing, Greencastle, Pa., as a manufacturing supervisor, retiring in 1991 after more than 45 years of service.


    He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the military police.

    He attended Apostolic Church, Greenstone.


    He was a member of Fountaindale Volunteer Fire Department and the World War II Memorial Registry.


    He is survived by his wife of more than 62 years, Betty M. McClain Martin; two sons, Carroll Martin of Fairfield, Pa., and David M. Martin of Waynesboro; one brother, Richard K. Martin of Fairfield; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and a number of nieces and nephews.


    He was preceded in death by one brother, Glen D. Martin.


    Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. Pastor Eugene Cline will officiate. Burial will follow in Fountaindale Union Cemetery, where military graveside honors will be conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Chambersburg.


    The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.


    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Apostolic Church, 2550 Iron Springs Road, Fairfield, PA 17320; or to Fountaindale Volunteer Fire Department, 1340 Old Waynesboro Road, Fairfield, PA 17320.
