I'm trying to add details on my stug III a,b,c,d there is a piece of equipment mounted usually on the left rear quarter that looks like a long piece of steel channel what is it and can I get more information on the net
    Thanks for your time

It sounds like the radio antenna trough.
Made of wood, just a protective channel that the thing folds/rotates/dismantles into.

Does it look like this side mount one? (On a Pz.III, Tankfest '08)

Needed some sleep...don't know why I was thinking the left rear, not the rear quarter.

Yes, it is an armored antenna trough to protect the antenna in the lowered position.

The A & early B StuGs did not have this - just some U-clips the antenna rested on. Late B through D had the armored trough fitted. From the E on, two troughs were fitted on the left & right sides.

Thanks for the info I've only seen models with it on both sides and thought the builder was just being creative. Thank you again your information is really helpful.
