Hi! My dad, Bert J. Johnson, was a member of company G, 164th infantry, North Dakota. My name is Vicki, I am his youngest daughter (age 45), and I work as an RN. Bert died in 1978 when I was 14, so never got to ask a lot of questions. Also, to my knowledge, he never talked about the war. He served in Guadalcanal, then his unit went to Fiji for a respite. At some point he came down with malaria, was sent back to the states where he served the rest of his time in the army. He worked at the "A.G. School". I am interested in meeting other WWII vets (or their sons/daughters) of the 164th, and also very interested in information from others about Guadalcanal.
Hi, Vicki. Welcome to the forum. I don't know just how much we can tell you, but you should probably post this in the Information Requests area where it will get more traffic. There are plenty of helpful folk around, so good luck.
I came across this link that might be of help for a start. HyperWar: US Army in WWII: Guadalcanal: The First Offensive [Chapter 8] Here's something else to look at http://www.americal.org/citationww2.shtml
