What was the armour like on these things?
I hear that it was even worse than the Sherman, and was in real risk of being 'knocked-out' even by late-war German small arms-20mm etc.
    Is that true?

    PK :

You may be interestd in this. By the summer of 1944 the Luftwaffe had included more HE in their 20mm round which was designated 2cm Minen Geschoss. All it had to do to aluminum was touch it and a fire would start. True, we are talking about thin walled steel here, but I am thinking the rearward side of the machine around the sensitive areas of the engines. I own some gun-cam footage of Luftwaffe fighters doing ground attack work with 20mm's.....not very pretty

Yeah, I've seen some Germans at work on Russian columns with such ordanance.
What got me questioning also was the historical accuracy of the Close Combat series-in which my M-10s constantly get knocked out by German small ordanance.

    Panzerknacker,

I think you checked the turret values :(63mm/25mm/25mm ) but the hull 37mm/19mm/13mm is far from for example TigerĀ“s 100mm/80mm/82mm.
